BARKery here for the dogs
Perhaps you have noshed on fried Brussels sprouts, mini hot dogs with sriracha cream cheese or cod fish and chips at The Hound’s Tale, a casual bistro on Prince George Street in Williamsburg. Maybe you’ve sipped a cool spirit while admiring the pub-style decor that pays tribute to man’s best friend.
Did you know that a few doors down, you’ll find more tails a waggin’ at The Hound’s Tale Corner BARKery?
Much like an ’80s mullet, it’s retail for your furry friends in front and a party in the back on a bricked patio with plenty of shade and treats for those with two or four legs.
Wine slushies, adult milkshakes and beer can be enjoyed along with cheese boards, hummus, salads, oysters and giant soft pretzels.
All well-behaved creatures on leashes are welcome to nibbles and bites right alongside you from their own menu. But my guess is you’ll have to read it to them.
I spoke with manager Diane Wade, who has three dogs of her own and 25 years of experience in the restaurant business. She oversees The Hound’s Tale and the Corner BARKery. She told me that Michelle and Steve Sieling bought both businesses from the original owners about three years ago, along with AromasWorld Specialty Coffees, Bakery & Cafe.
In the past, she said they’ve held Halloween costume contests and Valentine’s events for their furry patrons. She looks forward to hosting those again in the future.
With Prince George Street now closed to traffic, the city has allowed outdoor seating to be set up there. Humans and pets can enjoy al fresco dining under tents in what’s being billed as BARKaritaville, with food served from The Hound’s Tale.
There’s even a little pool for the pooches to help them keep cool in the summer heat.
BARKery and BARKaritaville are open noon to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, noon to 9 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and noon to 8 p.m. Sundays. Closed Mondays.
