Russia may have killed key ISIS figure
Russia’s Defense Ministry is looking into whether one of its airstrikes May 28 near Raqqa, Syria, killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-declared caliph of the Islamic State and one of the world’s most wanted terrorism suspects. In a statement Friday, the ministry said the Russian Air Force struck a meeting of ISIS leaders near the group’s de facto capital, possibly killing Baghdadi. The statement didn’t explain the two-week delay in reporting the airstrike.
Special counsel investigating Kushner
Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III is investigating the finances and business dealings of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s sonin-law and key adviser, as part of the probe into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election, The Washington Post reported, citing unnamed U.S. officials. The Post previously reported that investigators were looking into meetings that Kushner held in December, first with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak and then with Sergey Gorkov, the head of a state-owned Russian bank.
