State po­lice: 3 hurt when shots fired

Three peo­ple were in­jured by gun­fire early Sat­ur­day morn­ing in an in­ci­dent that shut down In­ter­state 57 in Markham much of the early part of the day, ac­cord­ing to the Illi­nois State Po­lice.

The shoot­ing oc­curred at 2:54 a.m. on I-57 south­bound be­tween Kedzie Av­enue and 159th Street, po­lice said.

A ve­hi­cle with four oc­cu­pants was struck by gun­fire, and one woman and two men were wounded. A fourth man was un­in­jured, po­lice said, adding that the in­jured oc­cu­pants were taken to the hos­pi­tal with in­juries that were not life-threat­en­ing.

All south­bound lanes were closed for sev­eral hours. Po­lice are ask­ing any­one with in­for­ma­tion to call 847-294-4400. Call­ers can re­main anony­mous, po­lice said.
