Council takes care of business, hires parttime police officer

MEDIA » Council’s June meeting was short in a number of ways. Going slightly more than a half hour, the agenda had only five legislative actions, all of which fell under the committees of Peter Williamson.

The board approved routine finance items such as paying bills. As chair of Public Safety, Williamson also got approval for hiring a part time police officer for fill-in purposes. Kirstyn Coale, who will join the department, is a current officer with Sharon Hill Police.

Williamson also took the lead on a motion to ratify an addendum to a standard agreement on the sale of the lot at Fifth and Broomall streets. Solicitor Bob Scott announced that the borough had closed on the purchase of the property earlier in the day (of the meeting.)

Finally, the board approved an engagement letter for legal service related to a real estate matter. The specific issue was not disclosed, which council said was protected by the Sunshine Law. Williamson said specialty counsel would be required. Mark Feller of the Dilworth Paxson firm was approved for a fee not to exceed $10,000 for all facets of the project.

The shortest of short council business was greeting small members of the Media Little League Marlins, which is sponsored by the borough. Coach Billy Ashton said that team activities are comprised of taking turns at bat and running around the field. Four members of the 12 on the team roster were present as Ashton presented a plaque of thanks to Mayor Bob McMahon. Those little boys – all within the team age range of 4 to 6 – tried to stand still for the presentation and largely succeeded. Council was delighted.
