100 Years Ago – 1917: “By reason of the disorder and rioting that has prevailed in Chester during the last two nights, in which lives have been lost and a number of persons wounded, I, Wesley S. McDowell, mayor of the City of Chester, do hereby proclaim: All hotels, liquor stores and bottling establishm­ents be closed and the sale of all intoxicant­s are forbidden; dealers and all other persons are forbidden to sell or dispose of any firearms without permit from the mayor; all persons are forbidden from carrying any firearms unless authorized to do so; all pool rooms be closed; all places of public amusement be closed after 7 p.m.; all persons not on business are urged to stay at home and off the streets after sundown; no jitney shall operate on Third Street after 7 p.m.; owners and drivers of automobile­s are requested not to run their cars after 7 p.m., except those who duty calls them to do so.”

50 Years Ago – 1967: Two new freeways in Delaware County were proposed for the first time Wednesday by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. The proposals include a 16-mile Main Line Expressway from Philadelph­ia westward through Delaware County to the West Chester Bypass in Chester County and an extension of the Media Bypass southwest through Delaware County.

25 Years Ago – 1992: About $270 worth of baby formula and diapers were reported stolen from Genuardi’s market at Glen Eagles Square, Route 202 and Ridge Road, state police said. Taken were two cases of Similac and six to eight double packs of Pampers diapers.

10 Years Ago – 2007: A Linwood man is facing drunken driving and related charges after he allegedly drove his bicycle into oncoming traffic at 6:54 Sunday night. The 37-yearold suffered minor injuries in the accident in the 3900 block of Market Street. He was driving his bicycle south on the northbound shoulder when he veered into oncoming traffic, drove across the yellow line and struck a car, according to police.
