Ch­ester bridge work con­tin­ues

CH­ESTER » Pen­nDOT an­nounces lane clo­sures are sched­uled on north­bound and south­bound In­ter­state 95 be­tween the I-476 (Exit 7) and Route 352/Route 320 (Exit 6) in­ter­changes from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. Mon­day, Sept. 18-Fri­day, Sept. 22, for con­struc­tion ac­tiv­i­ties re­lated to a pro­ject to re­ha­bil­i­tate eight bridges over I-95 and CSX Rail­road in the city.

Un­der this im­prove­ment pro­ject, Pen­nDOT is re­ha­bil­i­tat­ing the mul­ti­span, steel girder bridges on Pot­ter Street, Madi­son Street, Up­land Street, Mel­rose Av­enue, Ch­est­nut Street, Edg­mont Av­enue, and the Crosby Street and Wal­nut Street pedes­trian struc­tures. The con­trac­tor is also im­prov­ing the I-95 south exit ramp at Ch­est­nut Street.

Pen­nDOT owns the Edg­mont Av­enue and Madi­son Street bridges, and the City of Ch­ester owns the re­main­ing six struc­tures.

In ad­di­tion to the bridge and ramp im­prove­ments, Pen­nDOT’s con­trac­tor will re­pair Ch­est­nut Street and Mor­ton Av­enue from 12th Street to Fourth Street. Crews will re­con­struct curbs and side­walks; mill and resur­face the streets; in­stall a new traf­fic sig­nal at Ch­est­nut Street and Mor­ton Av­enue; and up­grade the traf­fic sig­nal at Mor­ton Av­enue and 7th Street. The con­trac­tor will re­con­struct Mor­ton Av­enue from Sev­enth Street to Fourth Street to lower the road un­der the Am­trak over­pass to in­crease ver­ti­cal clear­ance.

South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the gen­eral con­trac­tor on the $16.6 mil­lion pro­ject which is fi­nanced with 100 per­cent state funds.

Rad­nor bridge work con­tin­ues

The work is part of a $3.7 mil­lion lo­cal pro­ject to con­struct a new pedes­trian bridge over U.S. 30 (Lan­caster Av­enue) to con­nect Vil­lanova Univer­sity and the SEPTA plat­form. Once com­pleted, Vil­lanova Univer­sity will own and main­tain the new bridge. The en­tire pro­ject is ex­pected to fin­ish in De­cem­ber 2018.
