Richard A. “Rick” Wat­son, 90, of Middletown passed away peace­fully on Septem­ber 11, 2018 at Lima Es­tates sur­rounded by fam­ily.

Rick was born in Philadel­phia and raised in Wayne. He lived in Middletown Town­ship for 39 years and pre­vi­ously resided in Ridley Park.

Rick at­tended West Catholic High School for Boys and trans­ferred to Lin­coln Prepara­tory in or­der to grad­u­ate early and join the ser­vice. He en­listed in the Army at 17 and served in the Aleu­tian Is­lands. Af­ter the war, he earned his pi­lot’s li­cense.

At­tend­ing at night, Rick earned his bach­e­lor’s de­gree from Penn­syl­va­nia Mil­i­tary Col­lege and his MBA from Drexel Univer­sity. He was em­ployed for 35 years at Scott Pa­per Com­pany and was the cor­po­rate di­rec­tor of safety and se­cu­rity at his re­tire­ment.

Rick was a mem­ber or the Na­tional Safety Coun­cil and par­tic­i­pated in the first joint con­fer­ence of US and Soviet Safety and Health Pro­fes­sion­als. Af­ter Scott Pa­per, he was em­ployed by PQ Cor­po­ra­tion and upon his re­tire­ment from PQ, started his own con­sult­ing firm.

Rick vol­un­teered at RSVP in Me­dia and was a Eucharis­tic min­is­ter for St. Fran­cis de Sales R.C. Church. He en­joyed trav­el­ing, read­ing, sail­ing and power boat­ing es­pe­cially at his sum­mer home on the Ch­e­sa­peake Bay at Car­pen­ter’s Point, MD.

Rick was pre­de­ceased by his par­ents, Wal­ter and Rose Gal­lagher Wat­son; his wife of 53 years, Mar­ian L. Kopp Wat­son; and his sis­ter, Theresa Wat­son Webb.

He is sur­vived by his three chil­dren, Richard A. Wat­son, Jr. (Colleen), Paul A. Wat­son (Peggy), and Regina “Jean” M. Loewen­stein (Rick); his six grand­chil­dren, Kristin Braugh­ler, Lind­say Wat­son (Kim), Lisa Keeney (Justin), Gre­gory Wat­son (Stephanie), Jenny and Julie Loewen­stein; and his three great grand­chil­dren, Is­abella and Chase Braugh­ler and Wat­son Keeney. He is also sur­vived by his brother, Bernard Wat­son and his dear com­pan­ion, Cather­ine Schi­azza.
