Downed wires sparks car fire in Folcroft; 2 vehicles destroyed
FOLCROFT >> Two unoccupied cars were destroyed and a third sustained damage Friday when a high-tension power line downed by blustery winds ignited one on fire and spread to the others, police said.
Residents in four homes along the 700 block of School Lane were safely evacuated through the rear of their properties as the drama played out in front, not far from Delcroft Elementary School, Deputy Police Chief Christopher Eiserman said.
The incident was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m., drawing firefighters to the scene.
Once the line was de-energized by PECO an hour later, firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, Eiserman said. No injuries were reported.
According to Eiserman, a Kia and a Ford 500 were completely engulfed, while a Honda CR-V sustained damages on the passenger side.
