The Central State University Department of Fine and Performing Arts will perform “The Colored Museum” on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 each evening. The free performances will take place in Central State’s Paul Robeson Cultural & Performing Arts Center.

The play, which is written by George C. Wolfe, unfolds in a series of 11 “exhibits” (sketches) that explore and satirize prominent themes and identities of African-American culture. “The Colored Museum” simultaneously celebrates, satirizes and subverts the African-American legacy. Wolfe calls his play both “an exorcism and a party.” For the production, the audience will be invited to sit on the stage as the story intimately unfolds in front and around them.

The production is directed by CSU Drama Instructor John Fleming. It features music by jazz performer and CSU Alumna Tucki Bailey. The 2017-2018 Theatre Arts Program is presented by Central State University’s Title III Program in conjunction with the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
