City Coun­cil mem­bers to dis­cuss bud­get

The Spring­boro City Coun­cil will be­gin a work ses­sion on the city’s 2018 bud­get at 5 p.m. Thurs­day at Spring­boro City Hall, 320 W. Cen­tral Ave. The city ex­pects to raise $11 mil­lion in gen­eral fund rev­enue next year, $253,000 more than was an­tic­i­pated this year. The city’s big­gest source of in­come con­tin­ues to be in­come tax, rais­ing 80 per­cent or about $8.8 mil­lion of over­all rev­enue. The city ex­pects gen­eral fund spend­ing to to­tal $12.2 mil­lion, $384,000 more than pro­jected this year. The city ex­pects to end 2018 with $5.7 mil­lion in the gen­eral fund and just un­der $23.6 mil­lion in all city funds, in­clud­ing street, wa­ter sewer and golf funds. At 7 p.m. the coun­cil is ex­pected to ap­prove the bud­get and a res­o­lu­tion sup­port­ing an an­nex­a­tion agree­ment with Miami Twp., Mont­gomery County, to an­nex 7.7 acres of prop­erty on the south­west cor­ner of Austin Boule­vard and Ohio 741, Main Street in Spring­boro. This would be part of the pro­posed 60-acre Austin South Spring­boro de­vel­op­ment. The an­nex­a­tion is de­signed to sim­ply the ap­proval process for the $380 mil­lion project.
