City Council members to discuss budget
The Springboro City Council will begin a work session on the city’s 2018 budget at 5 p.m. Thursday at Springboro City Hall, 320 W. Central Ave. The city expects to raise $11 million in general fund revenue next year, $253,000 more than was anticipated this year. The city’s biggest source of income continues to be income tax, raising 80 percent or about $8.8 million of overall revenue. The city expects general fund spending to total $12.2 million, $384,000 more than projected this year. The city expects to end 2018 with $5.7 million in the general fund and just under $23.6 million in all city funds, including street, water sewer and golf funds. At 7 p.m. the council is expected to approve the budget and a resolution supporting an annexation agreement with Miami Twp., Montgomery County, to annex 7.7 acres of property on the southwest corner of Austin Boulevard and Ohio 741, Main Street in Springboro. This would be part of the proposed 60-acre Austin South Springboro development. The annexation is designed to simply the approval process for the $380 million project.
