An­gela Roi is trans­form­ing fash­ion­istas into phi­lan­thropists.

An­gela and Roi Lee met in 2011 as col­lege stu­dents in Bos­ton. Af­ter bond­ing over their shared love of fash­ion, the pair started dat­ing and soon formed the idea of found­ing a char­ity-fo­cused fash­ion com­pany. They launched An­gela Roi in 2013, in­spired, in part, by An­gela’s mother’s el­e­gant col­lec­tion of hand­bags. Al­though she had no back­ground in fash­ion de­sign, An­gela did possess an in­nate good taste that helped her craft a col­lec­tion of stylish bags of­fered at ex­tremely com­pet­i­tive prices. In the mean­time, Roi, the busi­ness side of the brand, be­gan sourc­ing pre­mium syn­thetic leathers, al­low­ing the com­pany to pro­duce high-qual­ity bags while lit­er­ally saving the hides of count­less an­i­mals. An­gela Roi’s espe­cial in­no­va­tion is its “do­nate by color” en­deavor. In­spired by the fact that many causes are as­so­ci­ated with par­tic­u­lar hues (Alzheimer’s with pur­ple, HIV/AIDS with red, etc.), the com­pany al­lows con­sumers to sup­port their fa­vorites by pur­chas­ing hand­bags ac­cord­ing to their shades. “As we ed­u­cate our cus­tomers about causes and an­i­mal-friendly leather,” says An­gela, “we hope that peo­ple will be­come more thought­ful about buy­ing fash­ion pieces.”
