Growing up in the culturally rich town of Tupelo, Mississippi, Amelia Loren Smith has been passionate about the arts since childhood—she has pursued not only interior design, but also drawing, singing, and dancing. “Mississippi may be one of the poorest states in the nation,” says Smith, “but it’s home to some of the biggest hearts.” Inspired by her, hardworking parents, Smith dreamed of becoming an interior designer capable of bringing down-to-earth beauty into people’s homes. She moved to New York City to study at the School of Visual Arts, and last year, founded her own design firm. In addition, she’s currently developing a philanthropic project to benefit impoverished girls from her beloved home state. “I believe when you’re diligent and sincere, things will always work out for the best. Maybe not how you planned, but how they’re meant to be.”
