Woman ar­rested in al­leged rob­bery of Mex­i­can gro­cery store

CAM­BRIDGE — A Cam­bridge woman has been ar­rested fol­low­ing an al­leged rob­bery on Fri­day, April 1, at the Tienda Mex­i­cana Ve­lasquez store, 601 Race Street, po­lice say.

Denise Maslow, 46, of 512 Academy Street was ar­rested in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent and charged with rob­bery, sec­ond-de­gree as­sault and theft of less than $1,000, po­lice said. She is be­ing held in the Dorch­ester County De­ten­tion Cen­ter on $50,000 bond, which was low­ered from $125,000 in a bail re­view, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

Cam­bridge Po­lice said the store clerk re­ported that a woman tried to grab money from the cash reg­is­ter and the clerk strug­gled with her to get the money back.

Charg­ing doc­u­ments state that the clerk stopped strug­gling to re­trieve the money when she no­ticed the woman reach­ing for a pocket knife.

Af­ter in­ves­ti­ga­tion, Maslow was iden­ti­fied as the al­leged thief by a pa­tron of the store who rec­og­nized her from see­ing her walk­ing in that area of town, ac­cord­ing to charg­ing doc­u­ments.
