Maryland Forest Service Arbor Day Celebration April 23
The Maryland Forest Service, in conjunction with the Dorchester County Forestry Board and the Spocott Windmill Foundation, will give away tree seedlings in honor of Arbor Day and Earth Day. The event will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 at the Spocott Windmill on Route 343 in Cornerville. Species to be given away will be loblolly pine, white pine, and a limited number of oaks and other hardwood trees, shrubs and backyard buffer tree bundles. Trees will be given out on a first come, first served basis. Those accepting trees are urged to bring newspaper, paper towel or a plastic bag to hold the trees to prevent the roots from drying out. Dorchester Center for the Arts Discerning Palates Events April 23-24
“Second Course” events for DCA’s annual Discerning Palates fundraiser will take place April 23-24. At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, Addie and Fred Beveridge will host “Fancy 2 at Canterbury,” a meal to include winter sangria, melon with prosciutto and aged cheddar, mixed green salad, grilled lamb chops with rice pilaf, caramelized squash and red wine. Tickets are $65 with only eight seats available. From 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, Alan Brock will host “A Taste of Maryland.” The event will pair classic Maryland foods with Brock’s collection of fine art by Maryland artists. Izaak Walton League Dinner Meeting April 24
The Mid-Shore chapter of the Izaak Walton League will hold a dinner meeting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 24 where Laura Thomas will speak about oyster aquaculture. The meeting will be held at Bolingbroke Park in Trappe. Thomas is about to complete her Masters Degree in Fisheries Science at the University of Maryland’s Horn Point Laboratory.
