CAM­BRIDGE — John F. Peters, 77, of Cam­bridge, MD, passed away on Wed­nes­day, April 13, 2016 at Univer­sity of Mary­land Shock Trauma. He was born in Tomato, Arkansas on March 27, 1939 and was a son of the late Wil­liam and May Saun­ders Peters.

He at­tended schools in Louisiana and con­tin­ued on to at­tend Univer­sity of Arkansas, where he played as a tight-end and a line­backer for the Univer­sity of Arkansas Ra­zor­backs. Mr. Peters was a Cor­po­ral in the U.S. Ma­rine Corps. Upon mov­ing to Cam­bridge, he worked at Western Pub­lish­ing, then Chun King which later be­came part of Kraft Foods when he re­tired. On Dec. 14, 1963, he mar­ried the for­mer Nancy Todd.

He en­joyed hunt­ing, fish­ing, gar­den­ing and go­ing to the auc­tion at Amer­i­can Cor­ners. His fam­ily was the joy of his life, where he at­tended his grand­chil­dren’s ac­tiv­i­ties.

He is sur­vived by his wife Nancy Peters, two sons Gre­gory Peters (Lisa) and Jay Har­ring­ton (Nancy),

grand­chil­dren Hailee Peters, Will Peters, Todd Har­ring­ton (Heather), Joseph Har­ring­ton (Katie), An­drew Har­ring­ton (Cali), great grand­chil­dren Wy­att, Daniel, Carter and Sarah, and many nieces and neph­ews. Be­sides his par­ents, Mr. Peters is pre­ceded in death by a brother, Gre­gory D. Peters, and a daugh­ter, Lynn Har­ring­ton.

Pall­bear­ers will be his grand­sons Will Peters, Todd Har­ring­ton, Joseph Har­ring­ton, An­drew Har­ring­ton and neph­ews Philip Sped­den and Chuck Todd.

A fu­neral ser­vice was Mon­day, April 18, at Thomas Fu­neral Home, P.A. in Cam­bridge, with Rev. Dale Brown of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment fol­lowed at the Mary­land East­ern Shore Vet­er­ans Ceme­tery.

In lieu of flow­ers, me­mo­rial con­tri­bu­tions can be made to a char­ity of one’s choice.
