Toast to the Nan­ti­coke to be held May 13

VI­ENNA — The Nan­ti­coke Wa­ter­shed Al­liance is host­ing a Toast to the Nan­ti­coke at Lay­ton’s Chance Win­ery from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Fri­day, May 13. This year’s event fo­cuses on “Grow­ing Up Nan­ti­coke,” and author Tom Hor­ton will share his ex­pe­ri­ences grow­ing up on the Marshy­hope Creek, a ma­jor trib­u­tary of the Nan­ti­coke River.

Tick­ets cost $50 and in­clude live mu­sic, heavy hors d’oeu­vres, an open wine bar, river in­for­ma­tion and winer y tours. Ticket sales sup­port the NWA’s pro­grams and ini­tia­tives to conser ve the Nan­ti­coke River wa­ter­shed. Founded in 1992, a bis­tate coali­tion es­tab­lished the NWA com­mit­ted to pro­tect­ing the nat­u­ral, cul­tural, and recre­ational re­sources of the Nan­ti­coke River wa­ter­shed. The NWA’s flag­ship pro­gram is an EPAap­proved cit­i­zen-sci­ence vol­un­teer water mon­i­tor­ing pro­gram, the Nan­ti­coke Creek­watch­ers, which has been awarded two Delaware Gover­nor’s Awards and one Mary­land Gover­nor’s Award.

Cur­rent Toast to the Nan­ti­coke spon­sors in­clude the Delaware Depart­ment of Nat­u­ral Re­sources and En­vi­ron­men­tal Con­trol, Friends of the Nan­ti­coke River and KJ Grace LLC.
