One dead in Hur­lock shoot­ing

HUR­LOCK — A Hur­lock man is dead and a sus­pect is in cus­tody af­ter re­ports of a shoot­ing Fri­day af­ter­noon, April 29, on Gold Rush Lane in Hur­lock, ac­cord­ing to Hur­lock po­lice.

Mary­land State Po­lice said the sus­pect was iden­ti­fied as Bran­don Mil­ton, 33, of the 4700-block of Jones Vil­lage Road in Hur­lock.

Po­lice said he was on the loose, and con­sid­ered armed and dan­ger­ous un­til he was ap­pre­hended Satur­day.

Mil­ton is charged with first- and sec­ond-de­gree mur­der, first-de­gree as­sault, hand­gun on per­son and use of a firearm in a vi­o­lent crime. Mil­ton is be­ing held with­out bond.

The Cam­bridge Po­lice De­part­ment con­firmed Mil­ton’s ar­rest in a Face­book post at about 8 p.m. Satur­day.

“CAUGHT by Cam­bridge PD and our com­mu­nity part­ner­ship, Dorch­ester County Sher­iff’s Of­fice and Mary­land State Po­lice. Thank you for the co­op­er­a­tion,” the post reads.

vi­o­lent crime. Mil­ton is be­ing held with­out bond.

Po­lice said said of­fi­cers re­sponded at about 2:40 p.m. to the 200-block of Gold Rush Lane for a re­port of shots fired dur­ing an al­ter­ca­tion be­tween Floyd Cain, Jr, 45, of the 4200-block of Rail­road Av­enue and Mil­ton.

Po­lice said Mil­ton shot Cain twice out­side an apart­ment com­plex. Cain was taken to Nan­ti­coke Memo­rial Hospi­tal in Seaford, Del., where he was later pro­nounced dead, po­lice said.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, wit­nesses told in­ves­ti­ga­tors they saw Mil­ton shoot Cain twice with a black hand­gun.

The Mary­land State Po­lice Homi­cide Unit was re­quested to re­spond and take the lead on the in­ves­ti­ga­tion. Ad­di­tional as­sis­tance is be­ing pro­vided by State Po­lice Crim­i­nal En­force­ment Divi­sion in­ves­ti­ga­tors, the Dorch­ester County Nar­cotics Task Force, and de­tec­tives, of­fi­cers and deputies from the Hur­lock Po­lice De­part­ment and Dorch­ester County Sher­iff’s Of­fice. State po­lice crime scene tech­ni­cians pro­cessed the shoot­ing scene.

Cain’s body has been taken to the Of­fice of the Chief Med­i­cal Ex­am­iner in Wilm­ing­ton, Del., for an autopsy to de­ter­mine the cause and man­ner of death.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors have in­ter­viewed wit­nesses and res­i­dents in the area through­out the night. Crime scene ev­i­dence has been taken to the State Po­lice Foren­sic Sci­ences Divi­sion crime lab­o­ra­tory for analysis.
