MADI­SON — Ruth Cather­ine Fitzhugh Moore, 96, of Madi­son, MD, passed away on Tues­day, May 10, 2016 at her home with her lov­ing fam­ily by her side. She was born in Lakesville on Feb. 15, 1920 and was a daugh­ter of the late Char­lie Fitzhugh and Elsie Insley Fitzhugh Hol­l­i­day.

She at­tended schools in Crapo. Mrs. Moore and her hus­band owned and op­er­ated Moore’s Gro­cery Store in Madi­son from 1951 to 1967. She mar­ried John Sa­muel D’arcy Moore, who passed away on Feb. 13, 1967. In 1969, she went to work at Western Pub­lish­ing and re­tired in 1983. She was an avid gar­dener, en­joyed do­ing ce­ram­ics, and since 1955 she wrote in her jour­nal daily. Mrs. Moore also took a writ­ing class with Dr. Tom Flow­ers. Since she was 16 years old, she has been a mem­ber of Madi­son United Methodist Church. She was also a mem­ber of the Madi­son Church Or­ga­ni­za­tion, a Sun­day School Teacher and she was one of the char­ter mem­bers of Madi­son Vol­un­teer Fire Com­pany.

She is sur­vived by three chil­dren: Charles Fitzhugh Moore and wife Cathy of Madi­son, Kitty Henry Can­non and hus­band Bill of Cam­bridge, and Bon­nie Bell-Chris­tiani and hus­band Earl of Car­roll County, eight grand­chil­dren: Tracy Moore, Cathie Rip­pons (Eldridge), Tr­isha B. Bryan (Ron), Julie B. Whitby (Rob), Laurie H. Mar­shall (Kevin), Mickey Henry Jr., Chet Moore, John Stone (Sum­mer), and 14 great grand­chil­dren, a great-great grand­daugh­ter, two sis­ters: Frances Blood­sworth of Cam­bridge and Gla­dys Mills of Madi­son, and a brother Robert Hol­l­i­day of Penn­syl­va­nia, several nieces and neph­ews. Be­sides her hus­band, Mrs. Moore is pre­ceded in death by a grand­daugh­ter Teresa Henry, sib­lings Nancy Fitzhugh, Har­vey Fitzhugh, Amos Fitzhugh, Susie Fitzhugh Hol­l­i­day, Frank Hol­l­i­day, two sons in law Mickey Henry and Ed­ward Bell.

Pall­bear­ers will be Mickey Henry Jr., Chet Moore, Ja­son Love, Kevin Mar­shall, Eldridge Rip­pons, Rob Whitby, and Ron Bryan. Hon­orary pall­bear­ers will be Robert Aaron, Ricky Smith, Al Johnston, Danny Mills, Sammy Horse­man, David Horse­man, David Blood­sworth and David Hol­l­i­day Collins.

A fu­neral ser­vice will be held on Satur­day, May 14, 1 p.m. at Madi­son United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Kirkley, Rev. Em­manuel John­son, Rev. Ran­dall Black­mon, Rev. Steve Blood­sworth and Rev. David Wooten Jr. will be of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low at the church­yard. Fam­ily will re­ceive friends Fri­day evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Fu­neral Home, P.A. in Cam­bridge.
