HUR­LOCK — Flossie Marie Con­way, “Mother”, of Hur­lock, MD passed away on Tues­day, May 24, 2016, at her home sur­rounded by her lov­ing fam­ily. She was 85.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1930 in Williamsburg, the daugh­ter of the late Sa­muel and New­comb. She was mar­ried to the late Franklin C. “June Bug” Con­way, who pre­ceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1983.

Flossie at­tended public schools in Dorch­ester County. She was em­ployed for a num­ber of years as a liner worker for the HarperBate­man Pickle Company in Hur­lock.

She en­joyed gardening, cook­ing, and singing. Her fa­vorite foods were win­ter cress, chit­ter­lings, potato salad, sweet potato bis­cuits, rice pud­ding, and the best yeast rolls. She was also a mem­ber of The National Church of God in Hur­lock, where she served as Sun­day School Teacher, Usher, Trea­surer and choir mem­ber. She loved to sing. Her fa­vorite song was One Day at a Time.

She is sur­vived by five sons, Thomas New­comb (El­iz­a­beth) of Seaford, DE, Franklin Con­way of Hur­lock, Car­roll Con­way of Hur­lock, Regi­nald Con­way (Brenda) of Lau­rel, DE and Ron­ald Con­way (Lo­raine) of South Toms River, NJ; four daugh­ters, Mar­garett New­comb, Deb­bie Dob­son, Alyce Ber­daux, all of Hur­lock, and Cher­lyon Con­way of Cam­bridge; two sis­ters, Victoria Jones of Williamsburg and Amanda Con­way of Hur­lock; a brother, Joseph New­comb of Williamsburg; a sis­ter in law, Dorothy Palmer of Hur­lock; a brother in law, Henry Thomas of Hur­lock; a very spe­cial friend, Dorothy Autrey of Hur­lock; Care­giver Mary Lawrence; 34 grand­chil­dren, 50 great grand­chil­dren, and 3 great­great grand­chil­dren; as well as a host of nieces, neph­ews, cousins, and spe­cial friends.

Be­sides her par­ents and hus­band, she is pre­ceded in death by four sons, Leroy New­comb, Keith Con­way, Vaughn Con­way and Ken­dall Con­way; one daugh­ter, Cyn­thia Con­way; a great great grand­son, Aaron Theophilus; two sis­ters, Josphine Aldridge and Elsie Meekins; and two brothers, Oliver Tin­ley and Os­car New­comb.

Funeral Ser­vices were held on Wed­nes­day, June 1, at the Hur­lock United Methodist Church in Hur­lock with Min­is­ter Jer­maine New­comb of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment fol­lowed at the East­ern Vet­er­ans Ceme­tery in Hur­lock.
