Dorothy Payne Ud­off, 98, of Cam­bridge, Mary­land passed away on Satur­day even­ing, June 18, 2016, at Mal­lard Bay Care Cen­ter, Cam­bridge with her family by her side.

Born on June 20, 1917, in Cam­bridge, Mary­land, she was a daugh­ter of the late Ruth Se­wall Payne and Percy Pow­ell Payne.

Dorothy at­tended the lo­cal schools and re­ceived her high school diploma. She then went on to ob­tain her Bach­e­lor’s de­gree at the Amer­i­can Univer­sity Col­lege in Wash­ing­ton, D.C.

Dorothy mar­ried David R. Book and they had two sons. In 1966 she mar­ried Frank Ud­off. They made their home in Bal­ti­more for many years be­fore mov­ing back to the Eastern Shore to raise their family. Frank died in 1997.

Dorothy was a life­time mem­ber of the Zion United Methodist Church, Cam­bridge Yacht Club, Dorch­ester Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal Ladies Aux­il­iary and the Dorch­ester County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety. She loved to vol­un­teer at the Cam­bridge Li­brary and the Robin Hood Shop. Her fa­vorite hob­bies were play­ing bridge with her lady friends, talk­ing pol­i­tics and work­ing in her flower gar­den. Dorothy will truly be missed by her family and friends.

Sur­viv­ing her are two sons David D. Book (Devy) of Cal­i­for­nia and Jay R. Book and wife Debi of Cam­bridge; grand­daugh­ters Cassie Jones and hus­band Wes and Tracy Pete both of Cam­bridge; great­grand­chil­dren Scotty Moxey and wife Christy of Cal­i­for­nia, Cody Moxey, Bryce Jones, Kyle Jones, Alexis Pete and Reid Jones all of Cam­bridge; spe­cial friends Trudy Kes­seler and Joseph Ch­ester.

Pre­ced­ing her in death be­sides her par­ents and hus­band were two sis­ters Peggy and Nancy Payne.

A pri­vate grave­side funeral ser­vice will be held in the East New Mar­ket Ceme­tery with family.

Of­fi­ci­at­ing will be Pas­tor Dale Kro­tee.

Dorothy’s family will serve as pall­bear­ers.
