Cambridge hosting Fourth of July Events
CAMBRIDGE — Celebrate Independence Day Monday, July 4, in Cambridge as the city plays host to several events, including a concert and fireworks along the Choptank River waterfront.
The Cambridge fireworks will begin at dusk Monday, July 4, with viewing locations at Long Wharf Park, Great Marsh Park and Sailwinds Park.
At 8 a.m. July 4, the fourth annual Firecracker Kids’ Triathlon will be held at the Dorchester Family YMCA. The event, organized by Cambridge Multi-Sport, will challenge children, ages 6 to
12, to complete a swim, bike and run event in a supportive and motivating community environment.
All proceeds from the event will go to the YMCA. Each participant will receive a finisher medal and a T-shirt. Awards will be issued to the top boy and girl finishers in each age group. For more information, visit www.cambridgemultisport.wordpress.com.
The Cambridge Sail and Power Squadron will host a boat parade on the Choptank River at 11:45 a.m. It starts at the mid-span of the Malkus Bridge. The parade can be viewed from Long Wharf Park or the docks near the Choptank River Lighthouse. Dorchester’s skipjack, Nathan of Dorchester, will be the lead boat in the parade. The Mid-Shore Community Band will hold its annual Fourth of July concert at 7 p.m. Monday, July 4, at Sailwinds Park in Cambridge. In the event of rain, the event will be held in the Governor’s Hall at Sailwinds.
The band will perform patriotic selections and will be conducted by EJ Oesterle. Fireworks will follow. Wine, beer and sodas, as well as hot dogs and hamburgers, will be available for purchase. The concert is free and open to the public, with donations accepted.
Bring your lawn chairs for the concert along the Choptank River waterfront and will be in viewing of the fireworks.
