DCPS staff at­tends men­tal health train­ing

CAM­BRIDGE — Dorch­ester County Pub­lic Schools par­tic­i­pated in a Youth Men­tal Health First Aid train­ing ses­sion on Tues­day, June 21.

Eleven mem­bers of the staff, in­clud­ing school ad­min­is­tra­tors and cen­tral of­fice per­son­nel, at­tended the train­ing ses­sion that was run by social work­ers Jan McIn­tyre and Kawana Webb.

Ac­cord­ing to the pro­gram web­site, the eight-hour pro­gram in­tro­duces par­tic­i­pants to the unique risk fac­tors and warn­ing signs of men­tal health prob­lems in ado­les­cents, builds un­der­stand­ing of the im­por­tance of early in­ter­ven­tion, and teaches in­di­vid­u­als how to help an ado­les­cent in cri­sis or ex­pe­ri­enc­ing a men­tal health chal­lenge.

Other staff mem­bers and com­mu­nity rep­re­sen­ta­tives will have the op­por­tu­nity to take the pro­gram as it will be of­fered through­out the 2016-2017 school year.
