DCPS staff attends mental health training
CAMBRIDGE — Dorchester County Public Schools participated in a Youth Mental Health First Aid training session on Tuesday, June 21.
Eleven members of the staff, including school administrators and central office personnel, attended the training session that was run by social workers Jan McIntyre and Kawana Webb.
According to the program website, the eight-hour program introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge.
Other staff members and community representatives will have the opportunity to take the program as it will be offered throughout the 2016-2017 school year.
