DCPS teach­ers com­plete James Madi­son Legacy Project

CAM­BRIDGE — So­cial Stud­ies teach­ers from both North Dorch­ester and Cam­bridge-South Dorch­ester high schools have com­pleted the James Madi­son Legacy Project.

The project was com­pleted by Jessica Payne of NDHS and Dr. Lau­rie Barnes of C-SDHS. It is part of a na­tion­wide pro­fes­sional devel­op­ment pro­gram di­rected by the Cen­ter for Civic Education, a non­profit ed­u­ca­tional or­ga­ni­za­tion that was awarded a fed­eral grant un­der the U.S. Depart­ment of Education Sup­port­ing Ef­fec­tive Ed­u­ca­tor Devel­op­ment (SEED) grant pro­gram.

Fea­tures of the pro­gram in­clude rich aca­demic con­tent, mas­tery of teach­ing meth­ods to help stu­dents be­come com­pe­tent and re­spon­si­ble par­tic­i­pants in their com­mu­ni­ties and the na­tion as a whole, and teacher in­sti­tutes and work­shops fo­cused on a cur­ricu­lum based on the prin­ci­ples of the U.S. Con­sti­tu­tion.
