Dorch­ester His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety of­fers ‘Hon­or­ing Our Past’ lun­cheon

CAM­BRIDGE — The Dorch­ester County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety will be of­fer­ing a Ge­neal­ogy Lunch at the Her­itage Mu­se­ums and Gar­dens, to be held at noon on Wednesday, July 20.

The lunch will fo­cus on hon­or­ing mil­i­tary fam­ily mem­bers and an­ces­tors. This event is free and open to the pub­lic and runs about one hour.

Wayne Tow­ers will share the his­tory and mil­i­tary life of his de­ceased Aunt Meta Mills who served in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1975. Colonel Mills’ ser­vice took her all over the world and was hon­ored with many dif­fer­ent medals. Learn about her con­nec­tion to NASA. Dorothy Shor­tall will share about her ex­pe­ri­ences in try­ing to join a lo­cal ge­nealog­i­cal so­ci­ety. Her ex­cite­ment upon “meet­ing” her an­ces­tor, Gabriel Slacum is pal­pa­ble and con­ta­gious.

All are en­cour­aged to bring their sto­ries and mem­o­ra­bilia about past fam­ily vet­er­ans to share with the group.
