Benedictine School Chrome City Ride set for July 31
RIDGELY — The 15th annual Chrome City Ride will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at the Benedictine School in Ridgely.
Motorcycles, street rods and classic and custom cars from Maryland and Delaware will gather at designated registration locations in Seaford, Del., Easton, Laurel, Salisbury and Annapolis, then cruise in convoys with police escorts to the Benedictine School campus.
The 2015 event raised more than $85,000 for the school, drawing more than 2,000 people and about 500 motorcycles and 400 classic cars. The fundraiser is the largest for the school and is used to fund tuition assistance for children and special adaptive equipment for the students. The funds also supports opportunities for adults with disabilities to work and live in the community.
This year’s event will feature a 1941 Willys pro-street coupe, a hot rod donated to the school by Edward Orzetti, a car collector from New Jersey. The vehicle has been professionally appraised and has a value of $72,000. This is the first car Orzetti has ever donated.
“I love that Benedictine has made a connection with the car and motorcycle world for their event. The organization is genuine — doing great work with great people,” Orzetti said. “My hopes are that this is not just a business transaction and that whoever buys this car is buying it to be charitable to a great organization.”
Benedictine will accept sealed bids during the July 31 event, as well as bids from various classic car websites. The highest bidder over the minimum bid will get the car. All proceeds will go to Benedictine programs and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and autism.
The event also will include music and entertainment by Rockin’ Elvis, Big Daddy P and DJ Chris, as well as motorcycle demonstrators.
The cost of the event is $25 for riders and spectators, and includes a T-shirt, a catered lunch, entertainment and chances for prizes and trophies.
Sponsors of the event include BMW of Fairfax, Va.; A.H. Hatcher Inc.; Spud Blake; D’Camera Group; Expressions of St. Marys LLC; Mike and Anna Mallas; Takoma Bicycles LLC; and WBOC-TV, Salisbury, who is the event’s media sponsor.
