Lisa Marie Ghezzi takes appointment as SSPP president
EASTON — Lisa Marie Ghezzi, former vice chairman of the Saints Peter and Paul School Advisory Board, and active parish and community member, has been appointed as president of Saints Peter and Paul School, effective Monday, July 25.
Ghezzi has been actively engaged with the advisory board since its inception this past January and has made some important advances working with the administration and other board members to strengthen enrollment, deploy new technology and recruit additional donors.
She brings a strong business background of 25 years in strategy, program development and finance. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with a Bachelor of Arts in History, and has a Masters in Business Administration from Georgetown University.
“The opportunities for the students of Saints Peter and Paul School are vast. I am looking forward to getting to know each of the families with students in our elementary and high schools, and to be working with our outstanding faculty and staff,” Ghezzi said. “It’s an exciting time to take on the role of president and be involved with the community to support our students’ academic and spiritual growth. I am also honored to be involved in the mission of Catholic education in the Diocese of Wilmington.”
Ghezzi’s efforts will be focused on growing enrollment, building endowment, raising awareness and developing a strategic plan for the school.
She will work closely with SSPP’s two principals, Connie Webster and Jim Nemeth, as they continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of the elementary and high school, respectively.
“Mrs. Ghezzi brings outstanding leadership credentials to the role of President. She will help us to improve the experience of our students and families, and guide us in achieving SSPP School’s vision,” said the Very Reverend James Nash, pastor of Saints Peter and Paul.
Nash thanked Bernie Grove for his leadership of the advisory board and important transitions that have occurred in the last several months, and also announced the election of new officers to the board, including Chairman Peggy Wilson, Vice Chairman Martin Knott and Secretary Karen Weisman.
Ghezzi has ser ved the community in many other ways, according to SSPP. Currently she chairs the Friends of Easton Point Park, a community group gathered to work with the town in support of building Easton’s first waterfront park.
She is a beekeeper and an active member of the Wye River Beekeepers, including active vice chair and former treasurer. She serves as a co-leader of the University of Maryland’s Master Gardener Bay-Wise program, which consults with homeowners to engage in landscape best practices to help improve the health of local streams and tributaries and the Chesapeake Bay.
She is on the board of directors of the Old-Growth Forest Network as well as involved with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Diamond-backed Terrapin Working Group and Maryland’s Green School Program, and is former chairman of Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy. She will be stepping down from leadership roles to focus on Saints Peter and Paul School.
In addition to Ghezzi’s hiring, Saints Peter and Paul School added an athletic director and talented faculty over the summer. A successful gala enabled the school to purchase two busses and meet growing transportation needs — the school is looking at potential opportunities to maximize utilization of the busses including transporting students from counties across the Mid-Shore.
The new sailing fleet of 18 boats allows the sailing program to expand its competitive season to spring and fall. Among many other sports accomplishments, the men’s tennis team advanced to the MIAA conference championships.
