CAMBRIDGE — Marie Irene Dudley, 89, of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016, at Mallard Bay Care Center, Cambridge, with her daughter by her side.

Born on Dec. 13, 1926, in Hollister, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Florence Rentz Greenwell and Lee Greenwell.

She was a lifetime member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church where she enjoyed leading devotions in the Mizpah Bible Class. She was also a member of the Gleaners Club. Marie had a strong faith and love for the Lord.

She worked as a cook for 40+ years in many restaurants in the Cambridge area, including Shoals, High Spot and the Point. In later years, her favorite place to eat was McDonalds. She loved her cheeseburger with ketchup, small coke and an apple pie. Her favorite T.V. show was the Andy Griffith show.

Marie loved the outdoors and was known to have a “green thumb”. She loved working in her flower beds and her favorite color of flowers was red and least favorite was yellow. She was a social butterfly with a contagious laugh. Marie loved people and if anyone needed anything she was always there to lend a helping hand. When ending a conversation Marie would always say, “I love you”.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mallard Bay Care Center for the great care given to Marie. She loved them and in return they loved her.

Surviving her is a daughter, Sheila Brittingham and husband Wayne of East New Market; grandchildren: Tiffany Brittingham Hance (Shawn) and Carly Brittingham (Jennifer); great grandchildren: Baileigh, Brayden and Brooklyn Brittingham; a sister Hannah Lawson of Vienna; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death, besides her parents, was a sister, Dorothy Larrimore.

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, July 30, at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High St., Cambridge, MD, with Rev. Randall Blackmon and Rev. Lavonne Chester-Gray officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marie’s name can be sent to Mallard Bay Care Center Activities Department, c/o Heather Robbins, 520 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613.
