C-SD hosts culi­nary boot camp

CAM­BRIDGE — The Mary­land State Depart­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion Food Ser­vice Di­vi­sion held a Culi­nary Boot Camp at Cam­bridge-South Dorch­ester High School Mon­day, Aug. 1, through Thurs­day, Aug. 4, for school food ser­vice em­ploy­ees through­out the East­ern Shore of Mar yland.

The goal of the boot camp was to in­crease the use of fresh fruits, veg­eta­bles, and whole grains in ac­cor­dance with the USDA school meal re­quire­ments.

A to­tal of 25 par­tic­i­pants work­ing in 5 teams de­vel­oped their culi­nary skills which in­cluded learn­ing knife and cut­ting skills, recipe development, food pre­sen­ta­tion, and mar­ket­ing.

The par­tic­i­pants all re­ceived 24 hours of pro­fes­sional development in food ser­vice con­tin­u­ing ed­u­ca­tion.


MSDE hosted a culi­nary boot camp at Cam­bridge-South Dorch­ester High School for food ser­vice em­ploy­ees in the school sys­tem. 25 par­tic­i­pants from across the state honed their culi­nary skills over the four day train­ing.
