Sen. Eckardt’s Tour De Mid-Shore begins Aug. 25
CAMBRIDGE — Sen. Addie Eckardt, R-37-Mid-Shore, recently announced she will begin her annual Tour De Mid-Shore by bicycle on Aug. 25.
The tour will consist of four days of cycling in the four counties of the MidShore that make up District 37B — Talbot County and parts of Caroline, Dorchester and Wicomico counties. She will ride 50 miles per day.
This year’s ride will be exploring “the other side of MD Route #50” with all routes starting and finishing east of U.S. Route 50.
Eckardt will tour the four counties to promote their uniqueness, natural resources, farmland and waterways, history, culture and tourism. There is no registration fee.
The first day starts in Wicomico County with planned visits to the hydroponic lettuce farm, Double Mills, Riverton, Sharptown and San Domingo.
Day two starts and ends in Preston with trips to Choptank, Tanyard, Gaineys Wharf and either by the Alpaca farm or to the Sports complex to Federalsburg for a rest stop, then State tree farm, past Blades Orchards and return to the Preston Historical Society.
Day three in Talbot County has a start and finish at Triple Creek Winery and Vineyards scheduled.
The final will start and finish at Suicide Bridge Restaurant in Dorchester County with trips through Secretary, East New Market, Rhodesdale, Brookview, Eldorado and Galestown for a stop and then back over Indiantown Road to Handsell, Vienna and back to Suicide Bridge.
An avid biker and nurse, Eckardt advocates for exercise as essential to disease prevention and for weight control. She believes District 37B is ideal for many outdoor activities, including cycling.
Eckardt is inviting people to join her for one or more days, or any part of the tour and related events.
