CAMBRIDGE — A Back to School Shoe Drive was coordinated on Monday, Aug. 22, by community-man Armah Dashiell through his newly founded organization, A Voice for Our Community, LLC.

More than 120 children across all grade levels were given new shoes, mostly sneakers, to prepare them for the upcoming school year. Individuals and businesses also were invited to give a monetary donation if they were not able to purchase and deliver the shoes.

Families from all over the Delmarva region registered for the program. Parents and grandparents travelled from near and far with their children to the Empowerment Center in Cambridge on Monday to receive their shoes.

“We put our heads together a few months ago and came up with this concept of, ‘How can we show an act of love under one roof?’ As you can see, it has brought us here,” Dashiell said.

In addition to shoes, backpacks and various school supplies were handed out, refreshments were available, and YouTube sensation No Cash performed his new single “Vote for Me” for the crowd. A DJ kept the party going throughout the event.

“I wanted the opportunity to bring all the parents and children together. There’s a lot of different organizations under one roof,” Dashiell said of the event.

Organizations such as Bring Cambridge Back, Fireflies Denton, Lost Kingz, and Anchor Point, and individual citizens contributed to making the event successful.
