Saturdays West End Citizens Association hosts Saturday “One Hour Walking Tour of Historic High Street” in Cambridge. Tours will continue each Saturday (weather permitting) through Saturday, Oct. 29. Sept. 4 The 39th Annual Salt Water Fishing Tournament will be held Sunday, Sept. 4 in Golden Hill. Participants must register by 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, for a fee of $5 per person. Folk Museum Local History Series
Sept. 7 South Dorchester Folk Museum will present Dana Paterra, manager, and Robert Parker, Superintendent of the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center as part of the local history lecture series. The free event will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Robbins Heritage Center, 1003 Greenway Drive. Paterra and Parker will give a virtual tour of the center, a sneak peek of the exhibits yet to be installed, and speak about the process of building the tribute to Tubman. Sept. 11 The Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Company will host its annual Watermen’s Rodeo Boat Docking contest beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11. Admission is free. It will be held at the P. L. Jones Marina and Boatyard on Old House Point Road, Fishing Creek. Watermen compete against each other to be the fastest to back their boat into a slip and tie it up. Prizes and awards go to the winners in many different categories. There will also be t-shirts for sale, multiple raffles, and great food. No coolers or drinks allowed. A five-session Hunter Safety Education Class will be held at the Thendara 4-H Center, 6275 Lord’s Crossing Rd, Hurlock. Sessions on Sept. 12, 14, 19, 21. will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 24 will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All five sessions must be attended to complete the course and students must pass written and practical exams and participate in live firing exercises. The course is open to all interested persons, free of charge, and those under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
