Dorchester Showcase set for September 25
CAMBRIDGE — Dorchester Center for the Arts will present the 40th annual Dorchester Center for the Arts Showcase from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, in downtown Cambridge.
A wide range of vendors are registered to showcase various art media, and special demonstrations will take place at the event, which is sponsored by the Nathan Foundation and Maryland State Arts Council.
With the support from 1880 Bank, the DCA will provide two stage areas this year. The 1880 Stage will be at 304 High Street, and there will be two performances: Paul Harrison, singer/songwriter at noon; and local favorite The Untouchables at 1 p.m.
Located at the Courthouse Stage will be the Mid-Shore Community Band at 2 p.m. and the Eastern Shore Dance Academy at 3:30 p.m.
Showcase also will include art demonstration opportunities as well to include screen-painting by Master Screen Painter John Iampieri; blacksmithing by Mark Williams of Williams Blacksmithing; fiber arts from the DCA Fiber Friday Group; and traditional rug hooking with Elissa Crouch.
There also will be free sails on the skipjack Nathan of
Dorchester at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Artist vendors will indlue Bead-A-Licious with seed beaded items; Christina Messick with paintings and custom wood art; Cynda Twilley with wreaths, trees and arrangements; Jay Baker with photography; Joyce Fritz Ritz with free-from beaded and wire-wrapped jewelry; Poseys by the Sea with sea glass jewelry and home décor; Dennis Kurth with Kurth Airbrush; and W. Robert Tolley with original oils and limited edition prints.
Food vendors will include Gabbins Soft Ice Cream, Overflow Café Coffee and Cookies; Pops Snow Palace with snow cones and soft pretzels; and the St. Paul’s Methodist Men with oyster sandwiches and crab cakes.
