SHILOH — Wednesday afternoon, the Colonel Richardson High boys’ soccer team played matching halves on the road against North Dorchester, scoring four times before the break and four more after it, to win 8-2.

SHILOH — Wednesday afternoon, the Colonel Richardson High boys’ soccer team played matching halves on the road against North Dorchester, scoring four times before the break and four more after it, to win 8-2.

The Colonels now stand 4-2 overall, 2-2 North Bayside, while North Dorchester is 2-6, 1-4.

“We did well, we did really well,” Colonels coach Brett Ireland said. “It’s funny, though. Today, we finished shots. We’ve had games where we had a ton of opportunities but couldn’t finish; today, though, we got it done.

“But now we’ve still got six games left to make up in about two weeks,” Ireland said. “The rain that we had the last couple of weeks has killed us, schedule-wise.”

Brockman Harris put the Colonels on the board first; with 4 minutes, 1 seconds elapsed in the opening period, he took a feed from Nick Roop and punched it in, just past Eagle keeper Mack Pearson (12 saves), to make it 1-0.

North Dorchester’s Emanuel Garcia nearly tied it up four minutes later; sliding around a Colonel defender, he right-footed a shot from the right that skipped teasingly in front of the Colonel

net before sophomore goaltender Remy Mangum lunged for it.

Mangum didn’t get a solid grip on it, but his hand grazed it enough to deflect it past the net, where a Colonel defender cleared it. It was one of Mangum’s seven saves on the day.

Roop scored the next Colonel goal, off a pass from Harley Maldonado in the ninth minute to make it 2-0. Roop notched the second of his four assists on the day on the next goal by the guests, a Dylan Wilson blast in the 10th minute following a free kick.

The Eagles responded 11 minutes later, Andrew Jackson heading one in to make it 3-1.

Colonel got the goal back a few minutes later, though, Roop again giving the assist to Wilson to make it 4-1 going into intermission.

Nick Nagel right-footed a slow bounced into the net just after halftime to make it 5-1, Colonels; Roop narrowly missed his second goal a few moments later, his right-footed try hitting the right post. Teammate Brandon Elmore was there to finish for him, though, the goal making it 6-1.

The third of a flurry of shots taking place in front of the ND net became the seventh goal for Colonel. Pearson punched the first one away, and an ND back tried to clear the second after it missed, but Maldonado put a foot on the ball one more time and found the back of the net that time.

Mitchell Christopher scored the last Colonel goal, with about five minutes left.

Eagle senior Zach Revel, who had played goalkeeper for much of high school, scored the second goal for his team, a right-footer with 92 seconds left to play, and a couple of game minutes after he had sailed a penaltykick high into the northerly breeze.

“Colonel had a good offense,” said rookie Eagle coach Daniel Glynn. “We’re a work in progress. We’ve had some good games, and some bad ones . ... We’ve got 12 seniors on the team, so we have experience. The playing time’s maybe not at the levels that some might want, but we’re still working at it. We’re coming along.”
