‘Eastern Shore Road Trips’ book-signing set for Oct. 8
CAMBRIDGE — Cambridge residents Jim Duffy and Jill Jasuta will be hosting a book-signing party in downtown Cambridge on Saturday, Oct. 8, to celebrate the release last month of “Eastern Shore Road Trips: 27 One-Day Adventures on Delmar va.”
The event, which will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Jimmie & Sook’s Raw Bar & Grill, 527 Poplar Street, is part of the monthly Second Saturday festivities in downtown Cambridge. Art galleries in the downtown area will be holding free meet-the-artist receptions that evening, and many stores will be staying open late as well.
Published by Duffy and Jasuta’s family-owned local business, Secrets of the Eastern Shore, the book was written by Duffy, an awardwinning magazine writer, and features photographs by Jasuta, whose work has been on display recently in several area art galleries. The couple has lived in Cambridge for the past 12 years.
“Eastern Shore Road Trips” is the first volume in a planned series of books focused on exploring the sights and enjoying the stories of the Delmarva Peninsula. The 27 excursions in the book include a number of local itineraries, with trips devoted to the City of Cambridge, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, and the Harriet Tubman Underground Railway. A package of three bonus excursions that readers can download after buying the book includes a trip to Hooper’s and Taylors Islands.
The Choptank River Lighthouse at Long Wharf is featured on the cover of the book. The geographic range of other trips in Eastern Shore Road Trips stretches from down in Cape Charles, Va. up into Kent County in Maryland and Sussex County in Delaware.
“So many people here in Cambridge and Dorchester have been so supportive of how we’re trying to celebrate this area through Secrets of the Eastern Shore, that we felt like we should have a local event that’s really geared for them,” Duffy said.
There will be some snacks available at the affair, along with a cash bar.
Books will be available for purchase at the event, and people are welcome to bring along copies for signing that they have already picked up elsewhere. This year’s revamped line of Secrets of the Eastern Shore holiday cards will also be on display at the event and available for ordering.
