William Steven Brohawn
CAMBRIDGE — William Steven Brohawn, 49, of Cambridge, MD, passed away on September 30, 2016 in Jinan, Shandong, China. He was born on Nov. 23, 1966, the son of Jean and the late William F. Brohawn Jr. He was a 1984 graduate of Cambridge South Dorchester High School and a 1988 graduate of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA.
For about the last 20 years, he was employed as an educator. He taught adult education classes in Federalsburg, at adolescent correctional institutions in Cambridge and Waldorf, MD. He taught high school History at various schools in Durham, NC, Washington, DC, Saints Peter and Paul in Easton, MD, and the Deerfield-Windsor School in Albany, GA. At the time of his passing, he was teaching at the International Education Center School Division of Shandong Normal University in Jinan, Shandong, China – fulfilling a longtime goal of teaching and living in the Peoples Republic of China.
He was an avid reader and history buff. During his time in Cambridge, he was an active
member of the Baraca Class at Grace United Methodist Church, serving as the class Vice President and President.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister Melanie Brohawn of Cambridge; aunt and uncle Cynthia and Earl Yoder of Okeechobee; aunt and uncle Zena and Lester Tucker; aunt Leona Ottinger, all of Harrington, DE; and aunt Beth McCraw of Erwin, TN. He is also survived by great aunts, Ruth Melvin and Dorothy Wechtenhiser, of Harrington; great uncle James Brohawn of Cambridge; several cousins; and great aunt Annalie Maguire of Severna Park, with whom he had a very special relationship. In addition to his father and grandparents, he was preceded in death by an uncle, Clinton Graham of Harrington, DE.
At his request, there will be no ser vices.
