Hospital auxiliary awards $8K in grants local students
CAMBRIDGE — The Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary’s nursing grant committee recently awarded grants to eight area nursing students, totaling $8,000. According to committee chairman, Diane McCarthy, the total is the most the auxiliary has awarded in a single year.
The financial aid awarded will cover tuition costs, books and other educational expenses. To be eligible for the nursing grant, students must be enrolled in the nursing program at Chesapeake College or another accredited nursing program and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Applicants can reapply each year.
The nursing grants were funded by donations made by members of the auxiliary, community members, the Hospitality Shop, located at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, and the Robin Hood Shop.
In addition to McCarthy, the auxiliar y’s nursing grant committee consists of Alexandria Anderson Snell, Barbara Lipe, Joy Carpenter, Kathy Potter and Nancy Duvall.
