Hospi­tal aux­il­iary awards $8K in grants lo­cal stu­dents

CAM­BRIDGE — The Dorch­ester Gen­eral Hospi­tal Aux­il­iary’s nurs­ing grant com­mit­tee re­cently awarded grants to eight area nurs­ing stu­dents, to­tal­ing $8,000. Ac­cord­ing to com­mit­tee chair­man, Diane McCarthy, the to­tal is the most the aux­il­iary has awarded in a sin­gle year.

The fi­nan­cial aid awarded will cover tu­ition costs, books and other ed­u­ca­tional ex­penses. To be eli­gi­ble for the nurs­ing grant, stu­dents must be en­rolled in the nurs­ing pro­gram at Ch­e­sa­peake Col­lege or another ac­cred­ited nurs­ing pro­gram and main­tain a 3.0 cu­mu­la­tive grade point av­er­age. Ap­pli­cants can reap­ply each year.

The nurs­ing grants were funded by do­na­tions made by mem­bers of the aux­il­iary, com­mu­nity mem­bers, the Hos­pi­tal­ity Shop, lo­cated at Univer­sity of Mary­land Shore Med­i­cal Cen­ter at Dorch­ester, and the Robin Hood Shop.

In ad­di­tion to McCarthy, the aux­il­iar y’s nurs­ing grant com­mit­tee con­sists of Alexan­dria An­der­son Snell, Bar­bara Lipe, Joy Car­pen­ter, Kathy Pot­ter and Nancy Du­vall.
