Me­lanie Malkus Bran­nock

CAM­BRIDGE — Me­lanie Malkus Bran­nock, 67, of Cam­bridge, MD, passed away Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 13, 2016 at UMSMC at Eas­ton. Born on May 1, 1949 in Cam­bridge, she was a daugh­ter of the late Ann Reid Hur­ley and Theodore E. “Ted” Malkus.

Me­lanie at­tended the lo­cal schools and grad­u­ated from Cam­bridge High School with the class of 1967. She was then mar­ried to Barry L. Smith and main­tained a life­long spe­cial re­la­tion­ship with him. Me­lanie was later ac­cepted into the nurs­ing pro­gram at McQueen Gibbs Nurs­ing School and suc­cess­fully com­pleted her LPN.

On April 9, 1977, she mar­ried Charles Robert “Bob” Bran­nock and they were mar­ried for 37 years. Bob died July 22, 2014.

Be­fore re­tir­ing, Me­lanie worked as an Ad­min­is­tra­tive As­sis­tant for the County Court Sys­tem. She was a mem­ber of the Im­manuel United Church of Christ,

Quota Club, and as a young child she took great pride as be­ing a mem­ber of the 4H Club.

Me­lanie was an avid reader, she loved to cook and was known to be a “great cook”. Go­ing to the lo­cal Dairy Queen and get­ting her “old fash­ioned DQ coke” was a high­light in her life. She en­joyed trav­el­ing and most of all she loved spend­ing time with her fam­ily, es­pe­cially her grand­chil­dren. Me­lanie was loved by all who knew her as a soft spo­ken “Lady of Class”. She will truly be missed by all.

Sur­viv­ing her are daugh­ters: Mindy Smith, Shay Smith and Leeanne Young (John); sis­ters Debi M. Book (Jay) and Candy R. Elzey; broth­ers Pa­trick W. Malkus (Lisa) and Michael D. Elzey (Char­lotte); grand­chil­dren: Jerry, Shawn and Ethan Carmine, Brooke

Miller, Ash­ley, John Lee and Ian Young; three great grand­chil­dren; step-fa­ther Allen Hur­ley and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

Pre­ced­ing her in death, be­sides her par­ents and hus­band, was a sis­ter Carol Prahl and step-mother Anne Malkus.

A fu­neral ser­vice was held Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 19 at the Im­manuel United Church of Christ, Cam­bridge, with Rev. Dale Kro­tee of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial fol­lowed at Old Trin­ity Church­yard, Church Creek.
