CAMBRIDGE — Ruth Anne Tyler, 86, of Cambridge, MD, peacefully left the life of her family on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury.

Born Aug. 9, 193,0 in Staunton, Va., she was a daughter of the late Marjorie Virginia Baker Long and Walter Willis Long. As a young child, the family relocated to Dorchester County.

Ruth had worked as a waitress in several of the local eateries but was best known for her years of service at the former Shoal’s Restaurant. A strong willed and determined woman, a trait she got from her mother Ruth, was the one who kept the family together. Her siblings and then her family always looked to her for help and guidance in their life.

Surviving are her daughters: Barbara Hummer Rolf (Richard) and Molly Kay Spicer, all of Cambridge; sister, Nellie Howell; grandsons: Ward Evan Fishpaw (Debbie), Arrick Rolf, and Kevin Rolf; great grandchildren: Madeline Marie Fishpaw, Evan Brian Fishpaw, Brandyn Rolf (Robin), Stephanie Windsor (James), Ricky Elzey, Avery Kenard and Madison Renee Rolf; great-great grandchildren: Evelyn Windsor, James Windsor, Brooklyn Rolf and Payton Elzey, along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death, besides her parents, was an infant daughter, Donna Lee Hummer that died shortly after birth; five sisters; two brothers; and five half siblings.

At Ruth’s request, no formal services will be held. An informal memorial service will be announced at a later date.
