DCPS Food Ser­vices wins first place for wa­ter­melon soup

CAM­BRIDGE — The Dorchester County Pub­lic Schools Food Ser­vice Depart­ment won first place in the an­nual recipe con­test at the Mary­land School Nutri­tion Con­fer­ence on Satur­day, Oct. 22, held at the Hunt Val­ley Re­sort in Ti­mo­nium.

The com­po­nents of the recipe had to be made from a fruit and/or veg­etable and was tasted and judged by a panel of in­di­vid­u­als rep­re­sent­ing school sites in Mary­land.

The Wa­ter­melon Soup recipe was first of­fered at Hur­lock Ele­men­tary School dur­ing the Farm to School cel­e­bra­tions.

The lo­cal wa­ter­mel­ons used to make the soup were a big hit with stu­dents and re­ceived a kids-ap­proval stamp.

DCPS was rep­re­sented at the con­fer­ence by Christina Bowie, Clara Bur­ton and Ar­lene Paul.
