DCPS Food Services wins first place for watermelon soup
CAMBRIDGE — The Dorchester County Public Schools Food Service Department won first place in the annual recipe contest at the Maryland School Nutrition Conference on Saturday, Oct. 22, held at the Hunt Valley Resort in Timonium.
The components of the recipe had to be made from a fruit and/or vegetable and was tasted and judged by a panel of individuals representing school sites in Maryland.
The Watermelon Soup recipe was first offered at Hurlock Elementary School during the Farm to School celebrations.
The local watermelons used to make the soup were a big hit with students and received a kids-approval stamp.
DCPS was represented at the conference by Christina Bowie, Clara Burton and Arlene Paul.
