CAM­BRIDGE — Shirley Jean Sim­mons Ni­blett, 81, of Cam­bridge, MD, passed away on Sun­day, Oct. 30, 2016, at UMSMC at Dorchester. She was born in Vi­enna on May 28, 1935, and was a daugh­ter of the late Harold Franklin Sim­mons Sr. and Flossie Jones Hughes Sim­mons.

She at­tended schools in Vi­enna, Sal­is­bury, and Cam­bridge. On Dec. 12, 1951, she mar­ried Levin Wil­lis Ni­blett Sr. Mrs. Ni­blett worked at Rob Roy for 34 years, then CATO and Cam­bridge Can­vas and Sail Loft. She started and owned her own craft busi­ness, Shirley’s Nov­el­ties, in 1991, with her hus­band. She en­joyed sewing, and her grand and great grand­chil­dren. Mrs. Ni­blett was a mem­ber of the Gar­ment Union, AARP, and Sal­va­tion Army.

She is sur­vived by her hus­band of al­most 65 years, Levin W. Ni­blett Sr.; three chil­dren: Levin Wil­lis “Pete” Ni­blett Jr. and wife Sandy; L. Su­san Phillips and hus­band Jim; and Brenda J. Jar­rett and hus­band Glen; four grand­chil­dren: Jamie Ni­blett and wife Stella; Shelly Niehaus and hus­band Billy; Ben Sauls­bury; and Linda Day­ton; six great grand­chil­dren: Ma­son Ni­blett; Bethany Niehaus; Joey Niehaus; Cierra Thomp­son; Ja­cob Day­ton; Am­ber Day­ton; a sis­ter, Joyce New­comb and hus­band Joey; two sis­ters in law: June Elzey and Kitty Trav-

ers; and nu­mer­ous nieces and neph­ews. Be­sides her par­ents, Mrs. Ni­blett is pre­ceded in death by a in­fant son, James Franklin Ni­blett; a grand­son, Neal Pa­trick Ni­blett; a brother, Harold Franklin Sim­mons Jr.; an in­fant sis­ter; and two in­fant brothers.

Pall­bear­ers will be Edgar Win­gate Jr., Glen Jar­rett, Jim Phillips, Tommy Ni­blett, Ja­cob Day­ton and Ricky Win­gate.

A funeral ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs­day, Nov. 3, at the Sal­va­tion Army with Col. Wil­liam Crab­son of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low at Dorchester Memo­rial Park. Fam­ily will re­ceive friends Wed­nes­day even­ing from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cam­bridge.
