Dou­glas W. “Turkle” North

CAM­BRIDGE — Dou­glas W. “Turkle” North, 76, of Cam­bridge, MD, passed away on Satur­day, Oct. 29, 2016, at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Cam­bridge on May 14, 1940, and was a son of the late Mil­ton Davis North and Louise Wheat­ley North.

Turkle grad­u­ated from Cam­bridge High School. He was a water­man most of his life, serv­ing on the Oys­ter Com­mit­tee for many years, a char­ter mem­ber of the Water­man’s As­so­ci­a­tion, and worked at the Ch­e­sa­peake Bay Mar­itime Museum. Turkle en­joyed work­ing in his shop and loved to cut grass. He was first mar­ried to Lee San­zone Hud­son and later in Sept. 1982, he mar­ried the for­mer Mil­dred Hur­ley.

He is sur­vived by his wife, Mil­dred North; a daugh­ter from his first mar­riage, Marie Davis and hus­band Rob; a step­son, Ricky Hubbard and his friend Jimmy Keyes, all of Cam­bridge; a grand­son, Robert Davis; a great grand­daugh­ter, Kather­ine Davis and her mother Deanna Parker, and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews. Be­sides his par­ents, Turkle was pre­ceded in death by a brother, Davis North.

Pall­bear­ers will be Phillip Sped­den, Frankie Peters, Gene Bright, Her­bie Mes­sick, Larry Dail, Jamie Doehlert and Richard Wilson.

A funeral ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. Satur­day, Nov. 5, at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cam­bridge, with Pas­tor Dave Ste­wart of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low at Green­lawn Ceme­tery. Fam­ily will re­ceive friends one hour prior to the ser­vice.
