DEL­MAR, DEL. — Joan M. Davis, 68, wife of the late Ge­orge W. Davis, of Del­mar, DE, passed away at her home on Nov. 17, 2016. Mrs. Davis had been in fail­ing health for the past six months.

She was born in Cam­bridge on May 26, 1948, the daugh­ter of the late Ford Franklin McCon­nell and Novella Tol­ley Bald­win. She was raised and at­tended pub­lic schools in Cam­bridge. While re­sid­ing in Cam­bridge, Joani was em­ployed as a bar­tender and wait­ress at sev­eral lo­cal restau­rants. She was also a very ac­tive mem­ber of the Aux­il­iary of Chop­tank Me­mo­rial Post 7460. In 1989, she mar­ried Ge­orge W. Davis and moved to Del­mar. Mr. Davis passed away on Oct. 31, 2001.

Upon mov­ing to Del­mar, Joani be­came very ac­tive in the Aux­il­iary of Del­mar Post 8276, V.F.W. and held nu­mer­ous of­fices in that or­ga­ni­za­tion. She was also a mem­ber of the Amer­i­can Le­gion Aux­il­iary of Laurel, DE. Prior to re­tire­ment she had been em­ployed as a food ser­vice worker in the pub­lic school sys­tem in Del­mar.

She is sur­vived by a daugh­ter, Heather A. Moore of Hur­lock, MD; a son, Jef­frey W. Phillips of Del­mar, DE; a step-daugh­ter, Bar­bara Snyder of Del­mar; a step-son, Bobby Davis of Florida; two grand­chil­dren, Kris­ten E. Smith and Bailie R. Dick­in­son; a niece, Jennifer Sim­mons; sev­eral step­grand­chil­dren; step-great­grand­chil­dren; and one step great-great grand­son. She was pre­ceded in death by a brother, Dou­glas T. McCon­nell.

A Cel­e­bra­tion of Life will be held at Post 8276 V.F.W. in Del­mar, DE, on Sunday af­ter­noon, De­cem­ber 4th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A eu­logy will be de­liv­ered by The Hon­or­able Pa­trick Wood.
