CPD grows beards for prostate cancer research
CAMBRIDGE — Twenty members of the Cambridge Police Department, led by Chief Dan Dvorak, participated in a No Shave November fundraising campaign to raise money for prostate cancer research.
The campaign culminated on Wednesday, Nov. 30, with prizes handed out for best overall beard, fullest beard, and the best effort to grow a beard.
Lt. Louis Nichols won a steak dinner for two from
Simmons Center Market for the best overall beard. Cpl. Steve Daniel won a Canvasback gift card for the fullest beard. Lt. Shane Hinson won a pocket knife for the best effort.
Thanks to the generosity of the community, the department raised well over their goal of $750 to support the cause.
“We do a lot for charity. It’s fulfilling to be able to donate to cancer research,” Dvorak said. “The officers were excited. Half of the department participated. Their group effort got a lot of people involved. Just the fact that people were asking about our beards got people to engage with us.”
Dvorak said it was an unusual experience to put on the uniform without having a clean-shaven face.
