Po­lice: Child dies af­ter be­ing struck by ve­hi­cle

EAST NEW MAR­KET — A 19-mon­thold child died Thurs­day af­ter­noon af­ter be­ing struck by a ve­hi­cle in a drive­way in the 5500-block Cedar Grove Road near East New Mar­ket, ac­cord­ing to the Dorch­ester County Sher­iff’s Of­fice.

The sher­iff’s of­fice said deputies and units from Dorch­ester County Emer­gency Med­i­cal Ser­vices re­sponded at 3:09 p.m. Thurs­day, Dec. 29, to 5514 Cedar Grove Road for a re­ported ve­hi­cle ac­ci­dent with a 19-month-old male boy get­ting run over by a ve­hi­cle in the drive­way.

Po­lice said deputies and E.M.S. per­son­nel pro­vided aid to the child, and he was taken to Dorch­ester Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment. Po­lice said the child died a short time af­ter ar­rival from in­juries suf­fered at the scene.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the in­ci­dent is on­go­ing and is be­ing con­ducted by the Dorch­ester County Sher­iff’s Of­fice. Dorch­ester County Sher­iff James W. Phillips Jr. and Dorch­ester County State’s At­tor­ney Wil­liam Jones both re­sponded to as­sist.
