— The North Dorchester Choral Ensemble traveled to Baltimore on Monday, Jan. 16, to perform at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum at a ceremony honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

While there, the ensemble performed various musical selections for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The selections included “America the Beautiful” and “The Color Purple” arranged by Rollo Dilworth, “I

Surrender” and “I’ll Make a Difference” arranged by Moses Hogan, “Heal the World” by Michael Jackson, “Al Shlosha” and “Up to the Mountain” by Patty Griffin.

“This blending of the arts with the commemoration of Dr. King’s legacy has afforded our students a unique opportunity,” said Dorchester County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Henry V. Wagner. “They have showcased their considerable talent while shining a contemporary spotlight on significant historic events. We are proud of them for bringing honor to themselves and their school.”

North Dorchester Chorus teacher Sabra Steward said many individuals in the audience came and spoke kindly of how the music touched them on the occasion of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Several students also shared their feelings about the experience.

“Singing at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum was an incredible honor and experience I will never forget,” said Beth Thomas.

“Even though we had to get up early on our day off from school, it was fun being with my friends and performing in Baltimore,” said Josh Thomas.

“It is always an amazing feeling when you experience sharing the gift of music with others,” said Rebecca Faulkner.

In addition to the choral ensemble, the program fea- tured various groups and speakers.

The Reginald F. Lewis Museum was created by the Lewis family, Baltimore City, and the Maryland Department of Education. It is dedicated to Maryland African-American History.

The North Dorchester High School African-American History classes take yearly field trips to visit the museum.
