EASTON — North Dorchester High’s softball team jumped ahead of Saints Peter and Paul early and defeated the Sabres 22-0 Wednesday, April 12.

Leann Asplen picked up the victory, throwing the final three innings. Senior Brooke Morton started the game, allowing only two and striking out five in her two innings of work.

“We have struggled this season getting hits when we had runners in scoring position, but today we were able to convert on those opportunities and put some runs on the scoreboard,” said Eagle head coach Clark Harrison. “The next two or three games will be an opportunity for us to see how far we have come since the beginning of the year.

“The girls have worked really hard this season,” he added. “They have been hitting the ball great. We average more than 10 hits a game. A couple hits here and three in key situations will be big for getting some more wins.”

North Dorchester (3-8 overall, 1-6 North Bayside) scored 10 runs in the first inning. After singles by Windsor and Asplen, Nossick doubled down the right-field line to take a 2-0 lead. A tworun single by Meredith Bell increased the lead to 4-0.

Lee plated Bell with a triple in the gap for a 5-0 lead.

An RBI single by Morton and consecutive doubles by Windsor and Asplen gave the Eagles a 9-0 lead. Harding capped the scoring in the first with a RBI single.

North Dorchester added six runs in the second. Lee hit two doubles in the inning, one off the fence, and Harding hit a two-run double off the fence.

Harrison said Sabers pitcher Jill Koski is a great player, and great team leader.

“Some of our girls play travel ball with Jill, and she always does an outstanding job,” he said. “Leann smoked a pitch right back up the middle, and Jill made the catch at the rubber.

“Jill had a couple hits today,” he added. “She can play anywhere in the field. She is a great player.”
