ND’s Bell signs with Chesapeake College softball
SHILOH — North Dorchester High’s four-year varsity softball starter Meredith Bell is set to join to collegiate ranks when she joins the Chesapeake College softball team next season.
Bell, a 2017 senior all-star and Bayside honorable mention selection, caught and played second base for the Eagles. She will be pursuing teaching in college.
“I’m really excited for the future,” she said. “I’ve been playing since I was little, and I’m sure playing in college is a much different experience. I don’t want to ever stop playing. I just can’t say goodbye to this game.
“I always like being around kids and working at a daycare,” she added. “I love seeing them smile and light up when they learn something new. I like feeling that I made a difference for them. I’m very excited to do that too.”
Bell will be joining longtime teammate and pitcher Brooke Morton who also will be playing next season for the Skipjacks who reached the Region XX Final Four for the ninth consecutive season. Bell has caught Morton for many years. The duo have won three District 6 softball championships for Tri-City.
In 2016, Tri-City went 12-1 in the regular season, then defeated Cambridge to win the District 6 title and advance to states.
“This is a very proud moment for a mom to see her moving on to college and still being able to play a game she loves,” said Bobbi Jo Bell, Meredith’s mom
North Dorchester High softball player Meredith Bell is joined by North Dorchester Assistant Principal Erin Fitzgerald, her dad Jeff Bell, mom Bobbi Jo Bell and teacher Cherie Robinson at a signing ceremony at the school.
