Dorch­ester MSSA chap­ter hosts kids fishing derby

— The Kids Fishing Derby at Long Wharf Park in Cam­bridge was held Satur­day, Aug. 5, and at­tracted 42 youth an­glers.

The derby was or­ga­nized by the Dorch­ester chap­ter of Maryland Salt­wa­ter Sport­fish­ing As­so­ci­a­tion in con­junc­tion with the city of Cam­bridge, ES Hub­bert Hard­ware, R&D Boat Supply, Island Tackle Out­fit­ters and Danny’s Seafood. The an­glers in­cluded chil­dren who caught fish for the first time.

Mor­gan Huntsicker, 11, won the stripped bass cat­e­gory with a 25- and half-inch catch. Allyssa Fox, 12, won twice, for the largest white perch and spot. Fen­way Dion, 8, caught the win­ning croaker and Jaloni Wat­son, 12 caught the largest cat­fish. Prizes were awarded to the sec­ond place win­ners as well. MSSA also pro­vided pizza and prizes at the end of the day. The MSSA hopes to hold the event in Au­gust 2018.
