CAMBRIDGE — The RAR Brewing Pop-Up Art Gallery returns Saturday, Sept. 16, for the GrooveFEST: Blues, Brews and BBQs in downtown Cambridge.

Brewery illustrator B.J. Wheatley and RAR co-owner Chris Brohawn will be decorating 519 Poplar St. during the festival, which will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. His one-of-a-kind artworks will be put on silent auction during the festival.

This is the second time RAR has held the Pop-Up Gallery. The first time came at the Taste of Cambridge in July, and the gallery raised $1,300 for Cambridge Main Street.

“This is Chris’ idea to put on an art show for all of my stuff,” Wheatley said at the Taste of Cambridge. “That is pretty cool of him to want to show everyone some of the things I do.”

Wheatley has been drawing for much of his life and earned an art degree in college before becoming an art teacher. When RAR Brewing opened in downtown Cambridge, Wheatley began doing the logos, art and marketing for the brewer y.

“It is cool to be a part of the brewery because it is great to bring something to our hometown and be a part of such a big, growing business for Cambridge,” he said. “It has been a big thing for me to use my degree for my career.

“I really like art because it is an easy way to express myself. The rest is history.”

Wheatley’s work featured at the gallery included caricatures of each of the brewers of the RAR Brewing staff.

“I’m proud to be a part of RAR and appreciate them giving me an opportunity to be a part of their success,” he said. “I run the taproom next door, and when people come in and ask about the art, it is pretty cool to tell them it is my work.

“It is neat doing the logos and art in-house because RAR is an inhouse brewery. We create some really cool things right there.”

Brohawn said the gallery saw a big crowd throughout the Taste of Cambridge, and they are looking forward to another big crowd Saturday.

“B.J. is a very talented artist, and we are proud of everything he has created for us,” he said. “We thought this was a great chance to put him in the spotlight, and have some fun.”
