Choptank Electric cautions against scams
CAMBRIDGE — Choptank Electric Cooperative continues to remind its members to be aware and vigilant in protecting themselves from potential scam artists.
Scams may include such methods as phone, email and personal contact, according to a news release.
Choptank Electric Cooperative never takes direct payment information over the phone or in person. Its accepted methods of payment are SmartHub, the Automated Phone Line 1-866-9994574, the district offices in Salisbury or Denton or through its kiosk located at its Cambridge District Office.
If you receive any calls demanding money immediately, hang up and call the Member Service Center at 1-877-892-0001 to verify your account status or report the suspicious call to your local authorities.
“We also do not endorse the use of third party payment options like Doxo. com. The safest and most secure way to pay your bill online is through our SmartHub portal which can be found on our website at www.choptankelectric.coop,” the release states.
If you believe you have been a victim of a scam of any kind, or any other type of fraudulent scheme, contact your local police department, your state attorney general’s office or Choptank Electric Cooperative directly.
